The two day cascade training of “Helping young Chepang women leaders to promote gender responsive governance in Nepal” was conducted in 11 target wards of Kalika and Icchakamana Municipalities of Chitwan from 16th October to 20th November, 201. The main objective of the workshop was to sensitize about 500 Chepang women about concept of GESI, local governance process, social accountability tools and advocacy so that these young Chepang could use this platform of WOCLAP to enhance their knowledge, build strong network among young leaders, improve their leadership skills and enhance their participation in the local governance process. Total of 539 Women Chepang Leadership Action Platforms (WOCLAP) members of these target wards were trained in this workshop. The sensitization workshop included sessions on gender equality and social inclusion, women empowerment, local governance and planning, advocacy and social mobilization, and social accountability tools. The ward level community score card prepared by WOLCAP of all 11 wards exhibited poor status of gender responsiveness of local governance. The minimal point scored was 7/100 and maximum was 35/100. However, the WOCLAP members exhibited enthusiasm to improve the gender responsive status of their respective wards along with committing to collectively demand for their rights and opportunities in the relevant local authorities. All the participants of the trainings exhibited enhanced knowledge of the topics. According to the WOCLAP members, the unequal power relations based on the gender is also one of the major hindering factors for minimal participation of Chepang women in local governance process. Hence, WOCLAP members has recommended for providing GESI training to the male of their community.
